When I was a three my family lived in Ottawa. My dad was going to school and my mom didn't have much money so we didn't have a whole lot of money. All of our toys were second hand, which meant we spent a lot of time at flea markets and yard sales. My favourite toy was a Pierre Elliot Trudeau hand puppet that I picked out all by lonesome at a flea market and paid ten cents for.

I used to use the puppet to act out Trudeau press conferences that I saw on television (I can only imagine what I was thinking while acting out the famous "nation's bedrooms" speech). I was in love with the puppet and by association in love with Trudeau. Probably my proudest moment was going to the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, calling out "Mr. Trudeau, Mr. Trudeau" and having him come over to me and wave to me.
